Website FAQ – Rate Increase
- Why are Ohio Cumberland’s rates increasing?
Previous rates were insufficient to provide safe, reliable service to all of its customers as efficiently and economically as possible. This is the first increase since 2011.
- What does the customer charge cover?
The customer charge covers the cost of maintaining the system that delivers gas to your home or business, regardless of how much gas you use. This includes operating and maintaining over 100 miles of pipeline, meter reading, billing services, 24/7 emergency response, and ongoing system maintenance and upgrades,
- Why are there separate customer rates?
The rate increase required Ohio Cumberland to create two separate customer classes, Residential and General Service:
- “Residential Service Customer” shall mean any Customer who consumes less than 300* Mcf per year between July 1 and June 30 at a single-family residential dwelling for space heating, air conditioning, cooking, water heating, incineration, refrigeration, laundry drying, lighting, incidental heating, or other domestic purposes. Annual consumption for Customers served hereunder will be reviewed each June 30th.
- “General Service Customer” shall mean any Customer who (1) consumes natural gas for a commercial use, (2) consumes 300 Mcf or more of natural gas per year between July 1 and June 30, regardless of the use, (3) consumes natural gas for residential and commercial use at a single-family residential dwelling, or (4) consumes natural gas for any other purpose than those identified in the definition for the RS Customer Class. Annual consumption for Customers served hereunder will be reviewed each June 30th.
*A typical residential household on average, consumes less than 300 Mcf per month (3,000 Ccf)
- When will the new rates take effect?
The new rates will take effect on February 26th and will appear on bills issued after that date.
- How much will my bill increase?
